Oliebollen

Oliebollen are a typical Dutch food, traditionally eaten on New Year's Eve. It's very

common though to see a oliebollenkraam, a stall selling oliebollen, at country markets

throughout the year.  Oliebollen are fried doughnut balls, filled or not with raisins.

Horse market

The horse market on the third Tuesday in October in Zuidlaren is the largest of its kind

in Europe. Due to Covid regulations there weren't as many animals as other years, however

everybody was happy that the market was back after last year's cancellation.

A lot of extra parking space has been created to cope with all the cars during

this festive weekend prior to the Zuidlaardermarkt as well the market itself.

P22 offers parking space for bicycles, which according this sign costs € 2,-.

Zuidlaren is getting ready for the Zuidlaardermarkt, an annual horse and country

market, on October 19. I spotted this sign entering the south side of the Brink

Balloërveld

Nature area Balloërveld is located about 10 km south of Zuidlaren, consisting mostly

of heathlands. There are several open spots with sand-drifts as here on the photo. It's a

wonderful area for hiking and cycling.  (photo 26Sep21)

Bakery

One of the local bakeries, known for their 'real Zuidlaarderbollen', 

round breads made from rye and wheat flower and filled with

dried grapes. They are a local speciality and very tasty.
