Oliebollen

Oliebollen are a typical Dutch food, traditionally eaten on New Year's Eve. It's very

common though to see a oliebollenkraam, a stall selling oliebollen, at country markets

throughout the year.  Oliebollen are fried doughnut balls, filled or not with raisins.

Hand cart

An old wooden hand cart in which mill bread ('molenbrood' in Dutch) was delivered 

at people's homes in the past. It was displayed in the workshop behind De Wachter mill.

Vegetables for sale

It seems most of the goods were already gone that day. There were still some endive
(andijvie in Dutch) and broccoli plants however, as well as rhubarb. (photo 4Jun21)

Poffertjes

This week the 'poffertjeskraam' was build up again on the central market square.

The temporary restaurant will be located here during the tourist season, serving a 

traditional Dutch treat called 'poffertjes': small fluffy pancakes, served with 

powdered sugar and butter. With our current Covid rules it is allowed

to be open between noon and 6 pm. (photo 5May21)

Cheese and a bicycle

The Zuivelhoeve sells Dutch and foreign cheese, nuts, dairy products

and much more. I like how they use a bike for advertising. (photo 16Apr21)

Paasbrood

Due to Covid the local musical society Erica could not come door to door to sell

current breads for Easter ('paasbrood' in Dutch) to earn some cash, this year 

we could order one online. It certainly tasted as delicious as it looked! (photo 5Apr21)

Zuidlaardertje

A local treat called 'Zuidlaardertje', a sweet and crisp meringue-like pastry from one

of the local pastry shops. (photo 26feb21)

Frites op de brink

Blik richting de grote brink, met de foodtruck van De Belg Waterloo die hier elke
zondag staat. Ze verkopen heerlijke vers gesneden biologische Vlaamse Frites. (foto 8mrt20)

Is everything OK?

Dat kan vanwege de lockdown natuurlijk niet binnen, maar afhalen kan wel bij
lunchroom 't Zuudloardertje. (foto 18dec20)

CDP Theme day: comfort food

 
Comfort food is eten waar je blij van wordt, iets wat je kookt of bakt als je jezelf wilt verwennen. Iedereen heeft het af en toe nodig! Ik bakte afgelopen weekend deze tulband met nootjes en rozijnen, heerlijk om met een kop koffie of thee van te genieten in deze donkere dagen.

Elke eerste dag van de maand is City Daily Photo theme day. Deze 1e december is het thema comfort food. Kijk hier om de bijdragen van de andere bloggers te zien.

CDP Theme day: kindness

Langs het fiets- en wandelpad tussen camping Tienelsheem en natuurgebied

Vijftig Bunder kom je langs dit rustpunt buiten het hek van een boerderij. 

Koffie/thee, limonade, en koek staan klaar. Voor de liefhebbers is er ijs in 

een vriezer rechts. Alles is zelfbediening dus de financiën gaan 

in goed vertrouwen. Heerlijk dat dit nog kan en wat een vriendelijk gebaar
richting wandelaars en fietsers.

Elke eerste dag van de maand is 'theme day' voor de City Daily Photo
