Balloërveld

Nature area Balloërveld is located about 10 km south of Zuidlaren, consisting mostly

of heathlands. There are several open spots with sand-drifts as here on the photo. It's a

wonderful area for hiking and cycling.  (photo 26Sep21)

Noordlaren mill

The gristmill 'Korenschoof'' (meaning 'sheaf of wheat') in the town of Noordlaren

On the bridge

A short stop on the bridge to view the river Drentsche Aa. The white building on the

Drentsche Aa

The wide terrace of restaurant De Drentsche Aa in Schipborg borders on the river 

Drentsche Aa. We passed here on an evening bicycle ride, which was on a Monday 

when they are usually closed, hence the upside down chairs. (photo 23Aug21)

Blanckenborg

A beautiful area near Noordlaren called the Blanckenborg Estate. And whenever we pass 

this particular spot on bicycle we always stop to enjoy the view. (photo 2Aug21)

Ferry

At the north side the water of Lake Zuidlaren continues in a canal called Drentsche Diep.

There only way to cross it at this point is on foot or by bicycle, by means of a small ferry 

that is manually operated by turning a wheel on the ferry. As you can see the ferry is

located on the other side when I took this photo.  (photo 2Aug21)

Ripening

Lots of sorbus trees and shrubs can be found along the sandy roads 

in NP Drentsche Aa. Here the berries are slowly colouring from green 

to red. In Dutch we call them 'lijsterbes'. (photo 22Jul21)

Vegetables for sale

It seems most of the goods were already gone that day. There were still some endive
(andijvie in Dutch) and broccoli plants however, as well as rhubarb. (photo 4Jun21)
